Interesting list of before-and-afters:

What’s Pulling Cuomo Left? Could It Be ‘the Cynthia Effect’?
By Ginia Bellafante

Ever since her emergence, the governor has seemed — how to say? — terrified out of his bomber jacket, and has been moving to establish New York as the liberal paradise of a certain kind of voter’s imagination: the kind of voter who would vote for Cynthia Nixon.

Coumo does not have much to worry about. He has stopped the tug o war with deblasio, that I have seen. NY does not want an ametuer running thanks.

He'll go back to being a corrupt union mob boss right after the election anyway.

People said that about DT, and look what happened.

Obviously AC is worried about Ms. Nixon otherwise he wouldn't be looking over his shoulder and or co-opting parts of her script in order to boost is suddenly recalled democrat principles.

While yes it is a long shot, it isn't wise to rule out Ms. Nixon or anyone else. If "angry" people can put His Orangeness into the WH, they certainly can boot Andrew Cuomo out of Albany.

Besides as noted AC is only tacking left until he can secure the nomination and thus (he hopes) win in November. After that he'll go back to business as usual for about a year until he starts revving up for a WH run in 2020.

Even if Ms. Nixon and her followers lose this bid, they can still do serious damage to AC in his (desperate) aspirations for a national political office, to wit the WH.

Do you think Nixon will split the Democratic vote if she runs against Cuomo and we'll end up with a Republican governor? A friend of mine is terrified that that will happen, and she wants Nixon to withdraw.

I guess it's possible.

Bernie helped kill Hilary chances so it’s not too far fetched

I would choose a republican over Nixon at this point. She would only raise our taxes to give to the poor and make housing even more unaffordable for the middle class. I only agree with her stance of legalization of marijuana

I'd rather NY go pataki republican again if that's possible.

Coumo can't even fix the subways. I can actually give deblasio a pass on this since the state controls the subways

I think you might be transferring some enthusiasm for Nixon into your characterization there. Its idiotic to say Cuomo is "terrified". However, consummate politician that he is, he's definitely changing his behavior to snag some on-the-fencers who would otherwise vote for her.

Lets face it - Cuomo will highly likely prevail in the primary. On the other hand, the state GOP is crossing its fingers that Nixon wins - they would stand a much better chance statewide of taking the governorship if they were running against Nixon - she's too far left.

You mean if she runs not as a democrat but independently?
The GOP is probably already plotting that fiasco - what a dream for them!

In 2014, Teachout got 35%, stronger than expected. Many had issues with Cuomo shutting down the Moreland Commission. Now, Nixon is as progressive and a much more popular name, and it remains to be seen how she fares against Cuomo. However, Cuomo is still the incumbent, who still has a well-established base, and chest, despite not being very popular among very progressive Democrats.
