You can get to Syracuse in a little less than an hour and you have some companies in the insurance, defense and medical device industries in the area.

It also has had a reputation as a mob town and the things that come with that.

With that said, it still offers its share of things for a city/area of its size, but like a lot of cities in the state, NE and in the North in general, it has a bad rap to get over. Hopefully a project like that one being proposed will be a step in the right direction.

Varick Street/the Brewery District has seen some new businesses and Baggs Square has seen some development already. So, there are some things that are actually occurring in terms of development.

With the Stanley Theater and Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute(affiliated with the Pratt Institute) on Genesee Street, it has the potential to form an Arts district just south of Downtown.

It actually hosted the American Hockey League All Star Game recently(2015) and the city is getting it again: https://theahl.com/ahl-all-star-classic-returning-utica

Now if it can bring this to fruition in the same corridor of town: https://www.wrvo.org/post/utica-work...Y5gnqDvdYJHSo0

Perhaps even tie in this theater that recently has been caming back to life in South Utica's Uptown area further down Genesee Street: https://www.utcany.org/

This corridor has decent public transportation bus coverage and some apartments already located along it as well: https://www.centro.org/docs/default-...rsn=20894c9d_2

I am shocked that the poster calling himself Roscoe Conkling has not checked in on this thread.

Supreme Court, Oneida County in downtown Utica is a classic, and I like the city, finding it oddly reminiscent of Ottawa, Canada. I tried to convince my wife to move up around there with me ages ago and have a farm with rabbits (etc.) and live at least in part Off The Fatta The Lan', but her family was downstate and she was and is close to them; Utica was just too far.
