Description: This year-round campground has 51 full hookup sites and 15 tent sites, some with full shade. Hot showers, flush toilets, laundry facilities, a dump site, picnic tables, and a pay telephone are offered to all Sands campers. Visitors enjoy swimming, fishing, and sunbathing at the nearby beach. The infamous Canadian Hole is just 2 1⁄2 miles away, making this a great spot to stay for your kiteboarding or windsurfing vacation. Grills aren’t provided, and open fires are not allowed. Bring your camp stove to cook. Pets are allowed on leashes. Reservations are accepted and recommended for summer and fall. Credit cards are not accepted.

Description: Adjacent to the Avon Pier, this 18-hole, natural-grass course is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week all summer. You can play as many games as you can squeeze in from noon until 6 p.m. for $8. In the offseason you can play all day for $8. Avon Golf is open from Easter through the week after Thanksgiving, depending on business.

Description: With four screens and first-run movies year-round, this large movie house shows films all day on weekends and throughout the summer, and on evenings only in the off-season.

Description: The Avon location of Carolina Outdoors rents Wind Rider trimaran sailboats, probably the easiest boats to learn to sail on. Carolina Outdoors also offers kayak rentals.

Description: Avon Golf & Fishing Pier has a reputation for being a hot spot for red drum. The all-tackle world-record red drum, weighing in at 94 pounds, 2 ounces, was caught about 200 yards from the pier in 1984, and the record holds to this day. The pier opens at the beginning of Apr and remains open through Thanksgiving. Purchase or rent your fishing supplies here, buy sandwiches and drinks, and pick up nautical gifts, including T-shirts and sand mirrors. They also offer an 18-hole natural-grass putting green on the premises. Play is unlimited, and you can come and go as you please.
