Here is another one for Halloween. Name at least 13 locations in Wyoming that include "Hell" in their names. Not including names like Shell or Rochelle, or business names. It is possible I missed some but I came up with 13, there could be more.

I almost named Hells Canyon 3 times, but I figured it was probably all the same canyon running through 3 counties.

Anyways keeping with the spirit of Halloween here is another question.

What was Cedar Mountain once called and why?

I thought you might be right about that, it had no occurred to me.

But just I checked and the 3 counties they are in are quite a distance apart, so there are 3 different Hells Canyons.

Cedar Mountain, which is also known as Spirit Mountain, is the smaller of the two peaks directly west of Cody, Wyoming.
I'm still looking for the history of the name "Spirit Mountain". Is the "Spirit" meaning spooky?

That was hard to find. Fun though.

Cody - Cedar "Spirit" Mountain - Cedar Mountain use to be called Spirit Mountain because people have been lost and never found in the caves that honeycomb this mountain and the surrounding area. The caves were closed to public access except that one can register with the forest service an explore these caves. Even the canyon that runs along side the mountain is considered haunted. People have heard footsteps behind them but when they turn around, no one is there. Also, some of the long time residents claim the mount is occupied by "little people."
Here is a different version, probably more accurate.

http://gapstone.brinkster.net/spiritmountain.htm (broken link)

it became known as Spirit Mountian Cave. The name derived from an indian belief that the spirit of the mountian was escaping out of the cave when hot springs created steam clouds that belched from its entrance. As of about 100 years ago, the Cody area was active with hot springs geysers.

During the carving of Buffalo Bill dams spillway, an access hole broke into some caverns. Two workers explored it, only to run into hydrogen sulfide gas, and never to return. The passage was plugged off, and a different spillway was built for the dam.
