When the high is 118, there really is no "cool" part of the day. Unless you plan on boating at 3 a.m., and even then it'll be in the 90s.

Here is a thread on the Bullhead-Laughlin-Lake Havasau area that might be worth your time to read.

Again, I'd encourage you to look into Sun City and Sun City West. My suspicion is you'd find your niche there, even if you have to drive to boating.

Good luck with your search.

Better link to the recommended thread -- this takes you to the beginning of the thread, not the middle: https://www.city-data.com/forum/ariz...city-area.html

Well, I read online that folks in Palm Springs, CA do things outside between 7AM and 11AM to avoid the heat-of-the-day at 4PM.

When we lived in here in Colorado before, we'd have our boat on the lake, and fishing, at 9AM. Be off of the lake at noon.

We know that those cities can/do get hot during the summer months, but we wouldn't be taking our boat out every day. We'd be either in our apartment enjoying the A/C or at a local casino playing a penny slot.

Might want to keep tabs on the evolving water situation facing AZ (and other states). Might not even have a lake to boat in.

Are you looking at Palm Springs now too?

Bullhead City is much further inland than Palm Springs.

Palm Springs gets plenty hot in the summer, but it doesn't get nearly the extremes of hot temperatures that Bullhead and Laughlin do every summer.

Plus, from Palm Springs, it's a quick trip up to the San Bernadino mountains or over to the coast when you want to totally escape the heat. Not so in Bullhead.

Again, since you and your wife are now OK with living in desert heat, check out Sun City and Sun City West in AZ. You can drive over to the river towns when you want to go boating, and you'll have a lot more amenities and perhaps nicer people in Sun City.

If you're now considering California, check out Bishop up in the Owens Valley. One of the most beautiful parts of California in my opinion, and Bishop has a definite "Western" small town feel. There are some lakes nearby, although I'm not sure what type of boats are allowed.

Another CA possibility might be the Big Bear Lake area or Lake Arrowhead. You'd have the lake right there for boating (again, not sure what type of boats are allowed).

Or, possibly check out Sun City in Mennifee, CA in between your old stomping grounds of Norco and Temecula.

This is a definite consideration. They even closed some of the boat launches in Lake Tahoe this summer because of the drought.

I thought you didn't want to live near any Casinos. At least, that's what you said on the Nevada forum when you were asking about Carson City.

Of course, in other threads, you also have said that your wife would never live in a really hot place, so....

Forgive me for saying this, but you tend to contradict yourself a lot, so it's very hard to keep up with what you and your wife are really looking for.

Good luck figuring it all out!

Well, RosieSD, people can change their minds about different things. Originally "no" to casinos, but changed that. There are times we wouldn't mind hitting a penny slot at a local casino.

Let's see "really hot" or "really cold"? As we are getting older, being that we are almost in our mid 70's, "hot" would be much better than "cold". With either, we'd simply stay inside of our apartment or go to a A/C casino for an hour or so.

Sometimes the mind has to change.

Sometimes the mind has to change.

No argument there, Babyboomers. People change their minds all the time.

But constantly contradicting yourself can be mighty confusing to people when you're asking them for help.

Just saying.

But, we aren't contradicting ourselves, just changing our minds. Guess people need to understand when people change their minds about something. Actually, there are those that do understand and those that refuse to (not you).
