What we are trying to do is find that area that has a local lake for powerboating (engine, not electric) and a somewhat of a "western" vibe to it.

Cody would be nice and we've been there before, but lack of housing (rental apartments/houses) is even worse than Sheridan has. So, we continue to look, but not in Wyoming. Thanks for the replies though.

Unfortunately, neither Prescott or Carson City have any local lakes for "engine" type boats. Driving up to Lake Tahoe would be too much for us.

Looks like moving south may be our only option. Living close to Las Vegas might be nice, like in Laughlin or Bullhead City. Colorado River and, what is left of it, Lake Mead. Can/does get hot, which means A/C on a lot, but during the winter here, we use the heat all of the times as well. We'd be able to take in the NFR and any other western events at South Point Hotel/Casino. Currently, just don't know. The equestrian areas of South Point always have something western/horse related/rodeo going on. It's almost unbelievable!

It appears that the only rodeo thing we are going to get, on a good basis, is our subscription to the Cowboy Channel on our Roku and being in the Cowboy Channel Fan Group in Facebook.

If you're looking at Bullhead City and Laughlin, how about Lake Havasu? They have boating AND rodeo action, and having spent time in all three, I like Lake Havasu more than Bullhead and Laughlin as a place to live.

One thing's for sure, if you end up moving to any of the Colorado River cities, the best time to move sure won't be in June. --- that'll throw you into the heat of summer right off the bat. Might want to think about moving earlier in the year or waiting until late fall so you can get settled in before the endless 100+ degree days start.

Lake Havasu is the biggest of the Vegas satellites mentioned at 60k in town. Most expensive, safest. Pretty high on seniors.

Boulder City is fairly modest sized at 16k in town. A bit less expensive than Havasu. Safe.

Bullhead City AZ is 2nd largest at 40k in town. Crime is somewhat higher than national average. Considerably less expensive than first 2. Age similar to first two.

Laughlin is smallest place with 9k in town. Clear cheapest. Clear highest on property crime. Clear oldest (avg is 60).

The best part of Sheridan, for us anyway, was eating at Wyoming Rib & Chop there. Best fillet steak I think I've ever had. Went downtown and got some photos of statues along the sidewalk. Stopped into Kings Saddlery. Nice store and museum in back (building behind store). Talked to some young folks that were pretty impressed over my former rodeo days. Found out that Sheridan just isn't our "cup of tea". However, great looking VA Hospital and city Hospital.

On Sunday, before leaving the next day, Monday, drove to Tongue River Reservoir. First time my wife has ever been anywhere in Montana. I've been in Billings and Bozeman before, many years ago. The Reservoir was pretty dried up in areas and boating season was coming to an end. Sure didn't expect to drive on a rough dirt road for a couple of miles to get to the boat ramp area.

Monday AM, left Sheridan, to never return, and headed for Laramie. In Laramie over night and part of next day, but Laramie isn't our "cup of tea" either. 1,000 plus, higher than we are now and they get quite a bit more snow than we do.

A highlight of our trip was meeting, at the Sheridan hotel during breakfast, a retired Full-Bird Army Colonel that was also a Chaplin. We must've talked to him for a couple of hours about different things.

So, now that Wyoming is a "no" for us, we are going to do online research into parts of Arizona, but not Phoenix or Albuquerque. Possibly Flagstaff, Tucson or (believe it or not) Prescott. In Nevada, Carson City.

So, to a point our trip was basically useless, but at least we visited. BUT, when it comes to visiting the cities I just mentioned, we just don't have the money to travel like that.
The trip wasn't useless if you've determined you are not interested in living in the area.
Wyoming is not for everyone. And given the other places you've indicated you'll visit, the winters would be way too difficult for you.

It is kind of odd that someone would be looking in Wyoming and then say they are interested in the Colorado river towns in Arizona... which are almost unlivable in the summer time.

Even people in Phoenix marvel that people can survive the summers in those places.

Well, those people that consider those areas "unlivable" in the summer are most likely those that still have to work. I'm fully retired and my wife will be after we move. Taking a boat out early enough in the AM, most high heat that hits in the afternoon isn't there.

Well, if we could handle the winters twice here in Colorado, once for 5 1/2 years and this time 3 years, we could handle Wyoming winters. We had a house in Parker, CO in 2006, when the Holiday Blizzard hit with some 6 feet of snow. That blizzard is in The Weather Channel Archives.

Then, early last year, some 28 inches dropped on us here in Loveland, Colorado and, earlier this year (April) at 7AM, it was minus 12 (-12) degrees.

So, we can handle winters, but if we don't have to, well..............

I lived in the Rockies in CO for a number of years and did not find them difficult. It's a dry cold And you adjust, depending on how much you like other qualities of a particular location.
Vermont is another story entirely as I presume Wyoming is based on what we heard from pretty much every local. I guess then, your reluctance is that there are just not enough amenities in WY for what you like to do, which is fair enough.
Best of luck finding your future and forever home.
