Do you have any particular area of interest in making a trip to Cheyenne?

At this time of the year, it may be rather problematic to make the trip for just a day and have any meaningful time in Cheyenne ... due to road conditions. In clear roads/dry weather, it's typically just under 2 hours to Cheyenne from central Denver, especially if you are driving during the Denver rush hour time frames.

It's decidely different than Denver.

There are a few musuems, and there's the historic downtown district and adjacent historic housing areas ... and the gov't offices, and some of the core businesses. But it's a minute fraction of the scale you'll find in Denver.

Wildlife viewing can be an iffy proposition, since you'll most likely be only viewing from the highway and roads in the area. There's a chance that the Buffalo herd as you come into Wyoing may be visible from the road or their parking area. You may be able to do some wildlife spotting up towards the Veedauwoo area, off of Happy Jack Road on the West side of Cheyennne ... antelope, mule deer are in that area for larger wildlife.

Scenery, of course, is totally different. Cheyenne is out on the desert plains which are reached just north of the Cheyenne ridge area as you come up I-25, and there will most likely be a spotty snow coverage over the area at the time. It's a wide open area, not anything like the huge developed areas of Denver and the Front Range communities that adjoin it for many miles.

If you are seeking mountain vistas ... you'll do much better in the Denver area and heading to the West within a 1/2 hour of Denver where that all begins (in Denver proper, you're mostly seeing the foothills, not the mountain ranges). Even from I-25, when you are heading north from Ft Collins, you're really only seeing the foothills with the possibility of seeing a few of the mountain peaks in the far distance. From Cheyenne, the mountains of Wyoming are quite distant ....

If you'd like to take a trip back in time you couldn't pick a better spot to visit while you're in Denver.

Here are a few of Cheyenne's really neat attractions. Winter scenery has a special beauty of its own so enjoy your trip. I've been in all of the following places and recommend them. The depot has a restaurant. I don't know if it's good or bad but you're not coming here for food. Be sure to drive through the downtown area while you're there.

Cheyenne Depot Museum |

Welcome to the Wyoming State Museum

Cheyenne Frontier Days - Old West Museum

This one can be a good spot for wildlife.

Cheyenne Botanic Gardens | Free Botanic Garden and Children's Village with over 30 notable features including a solar greenhouse and volunteer labor provided by senior, handicapped and youth volunteers.

Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites & Trails - Curt Gowdy State Park

Keep the following two in mind for a future summer trip.

Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites & Trails - Historic Governors' Mansion

The Nelson Museum of the West, featuring western history, western art, and artifacts of the west

nice

The Native statue at the steps is awesome; it'd be deemed offensive and removed out here, LOL.
