Get online and check the job listings in the Rock Springs(Rocketminer.com) and Gillette's newspaper(I don't know the name). You can also look in the yellow pages for oil field companies around Rock Springs and Gillette and go online and check their websites for job listings. There are listings for a variety of jobs relating to oil field work every day in the Rocketminer.

You'll need to apply directly to the field services companies, who can advise if they have an opening.

With these jobs being some of the top wage paying in the region and the recent reduction in the number of rigs in the Wyoming area, competition for the available jobs right now is pretty fierce.

I drive past a number of outfits yards and they all used to have signboards advertising for workers, then it was just "experienced" workers, and more recently ... no jobs listed at all.

Be aware, too, that housing in some of the more active areas right now can be very limited and expensive. So just getting a job isn't the entire picture, you need to be able to find affordable housing, too. There's a lot of workers living out of RV trailers, 5th wheels, campers, and other alternative housing in some pricey hook-up locations.
Thanks for the website. I'm a recent college graduate(July 2012) who is looking for work.

Yup, driver. That I can at least answer from my limited experience. CDLs with HAZMAT endorsements do well out here, and I've seen lots over fifty.

I imagined so.

Cool! Being a proffessional driver out there! That'd be work that's "my speed", after my 30 are in out here in OR.

Thanks

Hey there.
I have sent over 250 job applications over the last 6 months to Halliburton, Pure Energy, CALFrac,
Baker & Hues, and a few others for Entry-Level positions. I keep getting denied further continuation in the application process. I don't understand why. I am in great physical and mental shape. I have ran a commercial fishing vessel in Alaska for the past 7 yrs so I I'm no idiot to long hours and being a leader. No felonies. Have a passport, valid drivers license, a T.W.I.C. card.... Feeling frustrated and desperate. In Colorado now. Should I just pack up the truck and drive out to these places? Would i have better luck being there in person? Who ever i get on with will not be disappointed. Any help? Appreciated. Thanks Justin

Do you have your Hazmat CDL? Just a quick look at jobs online indicates that is a bare minimum. It does cost to get your CDL, but at least in Wyoming, the local job service has grants to help with it. Just an idea....

I have a nearly 60-year-old neighbor who got laid off a county maintenance job a year ago. He got a job lickety-split driving a water truck for energy company. But he had his Hazmat CDL....he said he got nearly 10 calls after he applied, and he's 60!

Yeah I've noticed half the entry levels do require a CDL. I haven't applied for those ones. Only minimum requirements I've applied for is clean criminal-driving record, and high school diploma. I have not family so I've applied all over- Cairo, Australia, Thailand, Poland, Russia, right here in the good ol US. Well... back to Alaska for the summer to make a little dough so I can focus on getting this CDL in the fall i guess.... And driving out and being there in person anyone? Thanks so much for your help and info.

Awesome! That'd be me in several years; only layed off by my own calling------hopefully. If before, then good deal too.
