I'm looking for some advice of where to live in Cheyenne. We are looking at moving in the very near future down there. I have three small children and my husband will work on the south end of town for the Dept. of Corrections. I'm wondering about family neighborhoods as well as schools. I know it's based on where you live. We could afford about a 200-225k home. So that give you and idea of our income level and what neighborhood we could afford.

Also would prefer to be closer to grocery stores, etc so we don't have to drive 30 mins to buy something.

Thanks

You may want to avoid the South side of Cheyenne, there seems to be a lot of crime over there. The north side of town or the Avenues both are really nice. Pretty much anything south of the railroad tracks is an area you may want to avoid.

Are you sure that your husband's job offer is located on "the south end of Cheyenne"?

I don't recall any Wyoming Dept of Corrections facility there ....

But if you are considering Cheyenne, the schools throughout are pretty comparable. In fact, the newest schools are on the South side of town with a new flagship HS there.

There's pockets of neighborhoods throughout the area that will fit your budget and expectations ... N, S, E, and W. Beyond the price point considerations, you need to consider property size, equine (or not), HOA subdivisions vs older developed areas of town, size of house, etc.

Shopping is primarily along the Del Range Blvd strip of malls and shopping centers. With the size of Cheyenne, it's not very far from any location. You have some shopping along Yellowstone, and some on the South Greeley Highway area. For the most part, if you live along or nearby those corridors, you'll not be far from a grocery store. The avenues and historic district adjacent to it are as far away from the local shopping as anyplace in town as they are on the south side of the airport so your access isn't right on your doorstep to Del Range. Still, it's only 10-15 minutes door to door in good weather. Depending upon your taste in housing and locations, I wouldn't make close access to shopping my primary consideration ... or even near the top of the list ... when selecting a place to live in Cheyenne; there's just way too many viable options at your price range.

Much has been posted previously about living in this area and I suggest that you use the search feature and read many pages about Cheyenne.

As always, I advise you to come visit the area before making any decision about a move to Cheyenne.
