Does anyone here who lives in Laramie have any opinions of the area. We are coming from Washington State...with 3 children. My husband is already going out to Torrington next month for a job interview but has also found an opening out in Laramie.

I don't live there, but both of my children attended the university there, and I've been there number of times for various reasons. As I'm sure you already knew, it's home to the University of Wyoming, the state's only four-year college, so it's well-known throughout Wyoming. Without the university I don't think there would be much there.

Laramie is at a high 7100-foot elevation, so it gets pretty cold and windy there in the winter -- more so than most other towns in the state (which says a lot). But due to the college being there, it's a pretty nice little town. Summers are pleasantly cool but short.

Cheyenne is only an hour away for a little more shopping and entertainment, and Fort Collins is probably an hour and a half for much better shopping, dining and entertainment. Denver is another hour away.

While Laramie itself just sits out on the high, open plains, there are ample mountain recreation opportunities not far, especially to the south and west.

All and all, it's not a bad place if you can tolerate the wind and cold.
