I'm pretty sure this is an auto-correct error. Or I hope it is.
I have seen that same gaffe for many years in online forums, and IIRC, this type of misspelling predates auto-correct technology. Some of this may be the result of auto-correct, but I doubt if all of the errors relating to that word can be blamed on auto-correct.
