Sometimes the temp in my house is over 80 degrees. Myself, and my dogs do fine. Sometimes myself and my dogs go hunting in subzero temps. We also do fine.

A comment on a current change.org petition to bring back recently cancelled ABC drama "Nashville": "We hit another mild stone!"

That petition is really rolling, with close to 94,000 signatures by this morning (aiming for 150,000; go sign if you love "Nashville") - but I'm not sure rolling "mild stones" are involved.

Well, this happened pre-Internet. But still. It was the Eighties. Most people in the NYC metropolitan area knew by then that the male determines the sex...I thought.

In the USSR, the problem was to recognize the occasional nuggets of real information in a flood of agitprop; in the West, it's looking past the flood of useless or distracting commercial info to get to the real data.

In the West, on the other hand, it's much easier for a self-educated person to get access to the books & ideas & movies & etc. that he or she wants. A lot of it is readily available over the Internet, to be sure. The problem with the 'Net is that the Show Biz culture wants to make us all into Consumers, rather than Citizens. The Show Biz answer to every problem is to buy something - a car, a house, join the right club, wear the right clothes, see the right movies, go to the right school & on & on. It's all cash 'n' carry, & the intellectual poverty of that is flooding into all other spheres of life.
That's a really good point. We do get flooded.

At least in my area, the Uber drivers at least speak good English. Not do taxi drivers.

Clearly, this person is used to...only the best...when it comes to English language skills.
