I do know how to work around these situations. The issue is that it's way too much work with no benefit except to please the folk who consider this really important, and I don't agree with them. I'm not a professor of English, but I'm also not illiterate. I'm not sloppy. I do care about communicating well.

Well, to quote an old saying, "Knowledge is power", so if somebody knows the method that another person is using to get rid of them, that could be a good thing.

Oh...on second thought, that should have been...if somebody "no's"...

I have to try to remember to use modern English whenever possible.

Here is some interesting and enlightening commentary, from The L.A. Times, on the topic of how our language has evolved.
No, I am not necessarily supporting some of the more recent changes in language usage, but the article does prove that this phenomenon is not a new one.

I think some posters must be robots that were originally designed for some non-Indo-European language. That kind of reminds me of a translating web site, but then even that doesn't explain it all.

>> President Andrew Johnson was under the (false) assumption that Davis and his cohorts had been directly involved in Lincoln's murder. <<

I'm seeing "under the assumption" more and more. I thought it was "under the impression." Is assumption also correct?

Can we assume that this post was not written in relation to a plane/bus/train ticket?
Would the person who wrote that gem "no" the difference between a fair price and an unfair one?
