My Father was born in 1898, in Garafraxia Township, Province of Ontario.
Some of his sayings........I'd like another slather of gravy on my dinner. If there were flies around in the summer, he would say "Git the Flit ". He had a saying about how something was "sweeter than spring water ". If he was going to go fishing " He was going to drown worms ".
A fast car was a "blue flash in the night ". Learning to drive a car was " aiming it, but not steering it very well ".
A foolish man was a "chuckle head ". A Chinese laundry was a " lice washer ". Any body who was overly religious was a "church hound ".
Home made alcohol was known as " liquid porch climber " or skull popper . A case of 24 bottles of beer was known as a "lease breaking party in a box ".
He used to say that " If a man waits long enough, his old suits will come back into fashion. '
He had a hand painted neck tie, that he bought in Hong Kong, that he wore for over 50 years. I still have it. Mum hated it.
Fifty years ago "highlighting" hair was called "getting your hair streaked". Don't know how it's done today but back then little strands of hair were pulled through small holes in a plastic cap and the individual strands of hair were bleached.
^^^^ And it was the "paddy wagon" that carted people off the the hoosegow.
