Although NYC doesn't have fireworks for New Year's the drop of the hugh crystal ball in Times Square with approx. million people present is a very big celebration.
if you are referring to FIRECRACKERS....i think the best places would be in China where they are still not totally banned. maybe some parts of taiwan...but definitely not in the big cities. if you are talking about FIRECRACKERS in the states....then i think the chinatowns of LAX or SFO are your best bets around CNY period.
if FIREWORKS....then i think it's wayyyy more common. and you shld be able to find those in any major cities or attractions.
i remember you used to be able to buy fireworks (for like less than USD20) in Haikou (Hainan Island - one of china's producers of fireworks) a few years ago & get them to lit it up for you by the beaches. imagine...your own firework displays! not sure if it's still allowed....
