Melbourne, Australia - No appologies to Sydney Either
Seoul, South Korea - Will be my new home in 2 years time
Singapore - I would love to live in singapore
London, Engalnd - my mothers birthplace
Tokyo - The worlds largest City, Enough Said
Bangkok, Thailand - I love the crazyness of Bangkok
Instanbul, Turkey - An amazing mix of old and new east and western cultures
Barcelona, Spain - For the partying and Architecture
New York - USA, Never being their buts its too big to ignore
Taipei - Taiwan, A lovely place.

I was thinking the same. Some cities are so dense, massive, and highly populated that I don't think they'd qualify for many people's lifetime living top city, though perhaps exciting while still single or for a few years at most. Other may be nice as a tourist, but have bad reputations among those who've actually lived there (Paris seems to often be described like this). I think people's first reaction is to list their favorite top 10 mega-cities.
My ideal cities are not overly dense, but still have good public transportation (trains/subways) and some unique qualities. It may actually be a plus not to be a haven for tourists as well. More environmentally minded, near nature and water, at least some diversity, generally safe (goodbye most American cities ), temperatures not as important, so long as it doesn't rain a lot (Vancouver, Hong Kong, Tokyo somewhat) and isn't seemingly cloudy all the time. I live in a megalopolis now and I don't like the feeling of being nobody. Whatever talents I have, idea I want to try, many others have done the same. I feel like I am not needed in such a place and my skills, hobbies, and talents can be put in better use in slightly smaller cities.

My ideal perfect city is somewhere that is classically beautiful like Paris, historic like Rome, vibrant and bustling like Tokyo, rich in the arts and culture like London, economically and financially powerful like New York, racially diverse like Toronto, perfect weather like Sydney, left-leaning like Amsterdam, and pedestrian-friendly like Copenhagen. Of course, no city fits all that criteria perfectly, but it must have efficient public transport and great public spaces (not necessarily parks). Also, if you need a car or a taxi to get around, the city is automatically disqualified. I don't like cities that were designed around the car, instead of around people.
That being said, my top 10 cities that I've been to are:

(3) New York City
(4) Paris
(5) Hong Kong
(6) Shanghai
(7) Bangkok
(8) Sydney
(9) Barcelona
(10) Singapore
