My question is: how is it to grow up in these hellholes? How's the life there? Does it resemble the medieval European village community where everyone spies on their neighbours just to catch some "suspivious activity"?

I don't follow. What makes living in a house a hellhole? It sounds like you already have your mind made up with a mix of jealousy and anger, and are more interested in putting people down than learning anything new. It's probably like living in an apartment, but with more room.

Those neighborhoods are way too dense for my liking and lacking in open space. However, living in a house sure beats living in an apartment. And the houses themselves in those pictures look nice anyway.

Sorry, but what makes them hellholes? They are just closely packed together homes. Would you prefer a tenement? I would love to live in a home like this!
For you living in these areas, what is it like? Church-going Republican bots?
And... why? Why do you want to live in these areas?
No, my brother lives in an area like this (this is Phoenix or somewhere else in the sunbelt, right?) and it is great. There are all kinds of people with different political views, I don't know why you say church-going republican bots with an air of snide arroagance. People prefer to live in these homes instead of an apartment. If and when they can afford it they might get a house with more space and location closer to parks.
IMHO you sound very rude and unhappy.
