I remember it involved imagining that there was something you could catch by touching a boy or girl, depending on your gender. Plus, "weird kids" were also imagined to have "cooties" by kids on the playground.
In your country, did you have this kind of thing in kids' playground culture growing up?
Yeah we had that, can't remember what we called it though but I remember the protection against it was putting your closed hand under your chin and saying "blogs" or both hands and saying "double blogs" for extra protection.
Yes but we just called them 'girl germs' or 'boy germs' not 'cooties.' I had heard of that from the Simpsons though.
The Catholic school I went to had "cooties" all over the place, actually every Catholic school I went to had them.
I'm not sure if the cooties were attached to the boys or the schools...
