Fitch ratings sees a trend in Alabama economy toward more diversification. “There is an on-going positive shift [in Alabama] from low-paying textile and apparel jobs to higher paying durable subsectors including automobiles and aerospace manufacturing," states Fitch report released in mid-March rating certain state of Alabama bonds a 'AA'.

emlandry,

Have you looked at Indeed.com? I didn't know what keywords to search by so I just plugged in marketing and hospitality. Here are the top 10 cities I got:

Orlando
Houston
New York
Chicago
Austin
Atlanta
Las Vegas
Washington, DC
San Diego
Dallas

If I were in your situation, I would not be too picky about where I move to. I graduated during the last recession. Imagine trying to break into IT just as the dotcom bubble is bursting. But I finally found a job. My only criteria was that it be affordable. Everything else was secondary.

Also, I wouldn't pay too much attention to Best Cities' lists. Besides being too general, each have a different set of criteria by which they evaluate a city.

I've applied all over Texas. Not a single response!

Most interviews I've had so far were actually from companies located in the most recession battered states, like Michigan and California.

Well I've had the struggle of applying to out of state places, but not getting much luck. I've learned that if you're not available to start working within that week, then they don't want you. I had this trouble in NYC already, I would get hired - but was then required to start within a couple days. Since moving isn't a snap of a finger, that wasn't possible. Figuring my money is tight, I assumed I would be better off by picking the city - then finding the job (I realize this is against anything my mother has ever taught me), but what I've been doing for the past year isn't working, so it's time I change it.

To be honest (and not at all offensive) Alabama doesn't exactly... tickle my fancy (for lack of better phrase).

As DennyCrane mentioned, NYC has been on my list but I'm not sure I can accept paying that high of a rent - same issues I was having with D.C.

I've never been to Vegas, for some reason I don't think of the words "employment" when I think of that city - do people actually go there to work?!
