I really like where I live, but the market for sales and marketing jobs is pretty non-existent. Used to work in sales for a Fortune 500 company until they cut all sales positions in any market that had fewer than a million people living in it. So I am thinking long and hard about sucking it up and moving to where good jobs are for the next 15 years, then coming back to Idaho or another western state to retire.

So where would be a good place for a middle aged salesman with experience in selling to industrial and service companies. I have sold printing, packaging and software to places like warehouses, manufacturing, auto industry and construction companies.

Best case scenario would to be able to find a place with both a decent job and a middle of the road cost of living.

Starting to do a little research on this, trying to find cities with a reasonable cost of living and available sales jobs. Can anyone comment on these cities? Looking at Des Moines, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Grand Rapids MI and Denver.

Any industries that look strong for the next ten years, I seem to have a knack for picking once great companies or industries that peaked 2 years before I got there.

Bump, anyone have advice on this? Or does anyone know of a good website for legitimate sales jobs? The other option is be a road warrior for a few years, where is a good place to look for those kind of sales jobs?

That is true and fact of life that sales jobs are getting fewer in our country. I think you should look beyond boundaries, in the asia pacitic and far east asia, where economy is doing really well.
I think your experience could be really utilized in the booming tech sector there.
