Good afternoon everyone. I have been wondering if others run into this situation. In my area there are some positions with such pitiful hours and wages that they do not merit the title "job". I have coined the phrase "joblet" for such employment. They are extremely low paying (some are now around $8.00 an hour in metro Atlanta), the amount of work is usually 10 to 15 hours a week and no benefits are available. They are touted as "a wonderful way in the door", although I have seen the exact opposite. I am in a position where I can observe some of the "joblets" and I never see any promotion to better positions. I refuse these when one becomes available and will continue to do so in the future. By the time I buy gas, clothing and compute wear and tear on a car I will come out in the hole for many of the "joblets". I am aware that some employment counselors advocate working even if you are merely coming out even for the sake of employment, but this does not fly when you are trying to stretch depleted financial resources. I'll be interested to hear about "joblets" in other parts of the country.
