Personally, I think that's never a waste to learn another language, especially one as prevalent in the US as Spanish. One thing is for certain, the Hispanic population in the US is fast-growing (esp where I live--in CA), and the demand for multi-lingual people is only getting stronger. At the moment I don't work in something where I "need" to learn the language, but, IMHO it may open up things for me that I don't have at the moment being monolingual.

It builds brain synapses. Even if you never us it other
than to pronounce foreign words better, it helps you
with other cognitive functions.
