It figures. I'm currently looking for work in my purchasing field in both Tulsa,OK and my hometown of Milwaukee,WI. Lots of good folks have advised us out of town job seekers to use alocal address when applying for work in another area. About 2 months ago i applied for a gov't purch job, followed up, and actually forgot about it as I hadn;t heard back. Now today I get a voice message how they like my background and want to interview me in my home state 800 mi away- tomorrow at 9AM
Guess using my former local address backfired. I'm trying to figure out how to buy myself some time to get to WI and give a good interview. anyone have any ideas on how to buy some time? I should have known that in my case, even getting an interview blows up in my face Oh well there has to be a way to try to turn this into a good thing
Well, maybe some who know something more can chime in, but if it is a government job, they probably can re-schedule you for an interview. Since when does the government make quick decisions hiring people anyway?

Are you kidding???
From Google: Tulsa to Milwaukee766 mi – about 12 hours 5 mins.
You can make it with time to spare if you leave in an hour.
Yeah, get there a couple hours early, get a cheap motel so you can fresh up and take a shower (might get reduced rate if you stay over which you probably will want to do) but do not lay down on the bed.
Driving... it sucks but if you are looking for work is it like you got something else to do?
Well true I COULD drive thru the night, arrive at the interview exhausted and spent , and not at 100%, which could lead to a subpar interview, which is what I'm trying to avoid. I'd rather try to buy some time, I mean they waited this long didn;t they?

Depends on how you perform on little sleep.
The I am out of town will catch the next available flight works better maybe.
I think I'll try the out-of town approach-I have done well on little sleep, but don;t want to chance it if at all possible. This is a gov't job and they tend to do things differently, so MAYBE I can buy a day or 2
