A $25.00 Starbucks gift card and a Christmas card (or Holidays card, whatever you call it) and write something meaningful in it, eg. best wishes to them and their family and show your appreciation for their hard work.

Good and understanding employees understand and appreciate your appreciation. Otherwise, no matter how much you give them, they are still ungrateful.

The important thing is lead by example throughout the years

This should come out of company funds, not your pocket, you know. Personal gifts from management are a no-no.

My company gives us a gift card or a coupon for a ham from HoneyBaked.

I don't know if I'd bother. I have received gifts from managers before, but I never expected them. The managers who gave gifts were likely in the $100K+ range anyway.

I say just bring coffee & donuts or pizza. With that, there's no risk of the employees, who may be broker than you are, feeling like they have to reciprocate the gift.

Send people home early if you are able to.

Gift cards are an excellent suggestion. Another benefit here is that you won't have to pay for shipping, which would be a consideration if it's a remote team.

Once, I had a project manager send me cookies from some gourmet cookie place as a thank-you gift for some extra time and effort I'd put in. That was appreciated... but really, a $25 gift card probably would have cost her less.

I agree with Posts #12 & #13. Good ideas. Sometimes if you start to do this, the employees will expect you to do it every year. And when you don't or can't, they will be angry or resentful and/or say you're cheap. You are a manager, working for the company too, you have no obligation to give out from your pocket.

Gifts, let's see. One boss gave everyone a certificate for a 10 pound turkey. Another boss solved the problem by laying everybody off before the holidays.

My son received a lap robe with the company logo embroidered on it. Another year, he got a small basket with a bit of cheese, a few crackers, and a small pot of mustard. One year it was a certificate to get a gift of his choice out of a small catalog of inexpensive gifts and he chose a toaster oven.

I think gift cards for consumables (restaurant, movie tickets, etc) are usually best. And definitely should be gender neutral gifts, not something "great for the girls" and something different for the, er, boys.

I can't remember a manager (not the big boss or the owner) ever giving holiday gifts. I think maybe bring in a nice holiday spread of cold cuts or cookies with a pretty bow might be more appropriate.
