Is being regarded by your manager a hard worker a back-handed compliment as in hard worker = no talent? Apologies for hijack, but this hit a nerve.
If "hard-worker," is the only adjective your manager uses to describe your work, then perhaps yes. If it is one of many adjectives, then most likely no.
I think they will fire you and feel this is fair warning. One reason they may fire you is it seems like the girl they favor is demanding. I think she already has an axe to grind with you, or maybe has bad mouthed you to them as it seems they connection outside of work, and they just want to avoid the drama. Either way, I'd be looking. I really wouldn't want to work with the former employee. Seems to me she is a "golden" girl. I.e. can't do any wrong in their eyes.
I also find it funny they are asking you. They should know as they above you. If they genuinely don't know, they should ask someone who has been there longer. I still think these are warning shots.
She just did a surprise visit today and they were so excited they jumped and hugged her lol.
I doubt it was a surprise to them. I stand by my opinion that intern seems like trouble and demanding. Expect more visits until she has a job. What a mentality. She's entitled to a job over you. What a princess.

I don't know, but I've been in similar situations. It all comes down to connections and popularity. Not who is the best worker. Seems to me they are trying to push the OP out. Always bringing little Miss. Intern around and hinting she's so deserving of a job. As I said, if I were the OP, I'd seriously be looking. Of course, I wouldn't leave until I was hired for another job first. This is a place that get rid of people it seems at the drop of a hat. It just seems like they talk outside of work, but she didn't tell them she was dropping in.

I read it more of "Can we use her somewhere in the operations? Are you overworked? Can you offload to her if we hired her so you can do other stuff?"
If they had wanted to do away with OP, then why ask?
You can be fired for any reason unless it is a protection. That said, I think this is unlikely To happen the way OP is inferring.
