This one was hilarious. Asking for housing is basically asking for far more than 50% of the value of a secretary/executive assistant's pay.

Yes, I know OP is from the Midwest but around my area being able to afford a home plus its upkeep means being well inside the 6 figure salary range.

Siena, I feel for you. I've had 3 jobs that made me absolutely miserable. Each time, decent co-workers, but absolutely horrible bosses who thoroughly poisoned the work atmosphere and had everyone cowed. Unless the job has fantastic pay and benefits, it's not worth it. Do what some others suggested, keep looking for another job and then escape as soon as you have a good offer.

Do you have a hobby? Something you do after work? I ask because you have skills. You might be able to work from home and supplement your income with your hobby. Do not leave a job before securing another.

Are you being trained by a woman who fears her job? Is she training her replacement? Put some goodies on your desk.

You were chosen for this job among other applicants. You were their first choice. Remember that when you are at work.

Actually, when my job changed, my boss told me that it's his belief that it takes a year to settle into a new role fully. You have to go through all the seasonal changes in the workflow and whatnot.

I feel for you. I don't see the point in waiting it out, is the extra income really worth your health and wellbeing? That's what's really at stake here, stress kills. Some of us are more susceptible to it and lesser equipped to cope. I'm that way too. However, absolutely try to line up another job (even it's lower compensation) before you quit. It's much easier to get a job when you have one. Good luck, hang in there and post here to diffuse stress as needed

I've been in your shoes just a few months ago! As soon as I hired on people quit in droves and we were down to a few employees. The trainer was mean, the boss seemed ok. I couldn't stand it and the trainer acted like everything I did was wearing on her nerves. In reality I was trying to learn the job. Everyone hated me and was ready to push me out the door. I even got written up my first month for cleaning a room too slow! (housekeeping).
But now that I'm efficient everyone seems to like me and things go on pretty great. The work is still pretty hard but now they're calling me in to work on my days off and they check my rooms pretty fast where they would check every detail before.
The point is, you're still learning OP! If you can't get another job then that's the one you're stuck with unfortunately. I knew that when I hired on to where I work currently. Maybe you have more experience, in that case I would keep looking! The only way I got to where I did is that I put up with the verbal abuse. I wouldn't wish that on anyone else, but... the only thing I can suggest is that you hang in there, keep looking for another job and just try to learn the job you have now as best you can. That's the only way I made it through myself- best of luck!

People urging her to quit: what is she supposed to live on?

If you don't need the money (?), yeah, I guess quit and enjoy life!

Thank you for all the advice. I'm definitely looking for something else. Everyday it gets worse. Today my evil colleague sent out an email saying she's taking vacation days for nearly every Friday and Monday this summer. Which means I will not be able to attend a wedding I'm a bridesmaid in because she is taking the same day off. She basically made every weekend this summer a long weekend for herself. With no regard for what I may have planned.

Did you already request and receive approval for the wedding weekend? If so, that is an issue for your manager to resolve. Even if not, I would speak to your manager about it ASAP.

I thought it would be too soon to request a day off. I wanted to wait. It's ok - I'm hoping to be out of here within a few weeks.
