I worked an office job as an intern... however my "pay" was the ability to put it on a resume.
My first paying, "official" job was this year as an office assistant for the WGS department on campus. I couldn't have a normal high school job because I didn't have a car (and couldn't get a car because I didn't have a job...).
One summer I sorted mail in the post office at the US Embassy in Cairo Egypt for like $4.75/hr. The next summer I was the SeaBees' bi**ch. I was out on the tarmac in the middle of summer, 120 degrees and sunny, scraping rust off of old window cages.
hostess at 17 for 6 bucks an hr ...wow i hated that job. lol lets see this was in 2003
went to waitress at Steak n Shake mmmm 2 months after that for 2.13/hr plus tips...oooh i loved my EXACT coinage tips from the older crowd on Sundays...i still remember my .27 cent tip from this one old lady for her cup of coffee (mind you she was there for a good 2 hrs (taking up one of my 4-seater tables) or so just enjoying herself and her newspaper)....She was so sweet though it didn't even bother me lol
It depends on what you consider a job. Starting when I was 7 years old, every summer I'd drag a wagon with buckets up the fire trail behind the house, and pick whatever berries were in season. Then I'd haul that wagon around the neighborhood and sell the berries for 25 cents a pint. When it wasn't berry season, I'd shovel snow for a quarter. Or I'd shovel dog poo for a nickel a poo. Or I'd rake leaves for a quarter. Anything to make a few quarters because my family was dirt poor. By the time I was 10, I'd saved enough money to buy myself a bicycle, which I promptly put into service as the neighborhood "taxi". The public pool was two miles away. I'd peddle a kid on my handlebars all the way there in exchange for them paying my way in to the pool. I'd peddle them back in exchange for another quarter.
When I hit 12 years old, I lied about my age and said I was 14 and got a job flipping burgers so that I could pay for a week at summer camp. I've never quit working since then. So...I don't know what you'd consider my first job...flipping burgers, or self-employment.
My first job was waiting tables in a family restraunt.
