I think this should be up to women to decide because men just can't relate. Men think walk it off it can't be that bad and you should be used to it by now. I guess kind of like a man getting kicked in the family jewels. Can't describe it but it's something only a man can fully understand the pain and agony.

In closing take it as an individual case by case thing. Get a doctor's note, then cool.

There are some really stupid threads on this board many times, this one might just take that to another level.

The more special consideration women demand, the more they assure they will be treated as second class in the workplace.

I wish I had this. It encourages people to keep healthy. I have a ton of vacation time every time I leave a job as I might call in sick once every couple of years.

I think it should be part of your sick days but do you think women should then get more sick days than men since they don't get periods?

I would like to know when it became ok to talk about your period at work. With everyone. I'm a woman and I've NEVER talked about my period at work. Ever. Yet I know when every single one of my female coworkers are on their periods. Eeewwww. TMI. Plus, what am I supposed to do with that information? Not give them work? Let them leave early?

My husband knows when his female workers are on their cycle. He just ignores them, but still....why is it even a topic?
I agree. So many women suffer and do not seek medical attention when they should. Me? I have no symptoms, no problems, my moods don't change, etc. (Though I used to when I was younger and I would leave school.)

BTW-I agree. I also find a lot of women talk about periods at work. But really, I find people talk about anything medical so whatever. (As long as you're against all medical chatter than I see your point.)

Of course not -- this kind of thinking implies women because they are women and unable to handle their hormones are incapable of being good employees.

Back in the late 70's I was working at a hospital in Atlanta. Most of the people doing my job were women. We were told that we would not be paid for the first sick day we took because if we were then we would all take one day off per month for our periods. I kid you not.
