I actually got a letter in the mail with the token rejection. Not really surprised.

The reason I don't want them a rejection letter is because it still give me hope. Like the job I have now, I interviewed on the 5th of Dec and didn't get offered the job until jan 9th. But I did feel it was over and was shocked when they called

Fired without cause = laid off. That is what you should have said.

I think the terminology is what got me, it's that I was laid off to begin with. I don't understand why they called me for an interview.

Did your resume have a career summary at the top? Sometimes that can be a reason why a hiring manager may not focus on your last job

I get what you mean. It's very frustrating. I kind of have it wouldn't have been a great place to work as I think back. They actually had me answer like essay questions on the applications. It wasn't a public school.
