Personally, I'd rather work for Amazon. I work in technology and I would rather be designing state of the art cloud services, mobile computing software and incredible supply chain systems than work on state software. In my field, you want to work at a technology company. And Amazon is one of the best technology companies out there.

It really depends on what position.

Working in the warehouse at Amazon is not a great long term prospect. Hard work, tough environment, and the hours/stability will vary as business varies. There is no guarantee that any given warehouse will be used in 10 years.

A software developer or accountant in Seattle is probably a pretty good option.

Working for the state definitely has pros and cons, but corrections is a 24/7/365 gig. Your going to be working Christmas morning. A friend of mine did it and he was on call for about 4 years before getting a somewhat regular schedule.

Overall, I would probably go for the state job.

My sister in law worked for Amazon and she actually hated every minute of it.
But she worked at the warehouse.

Amazon is probably the worst company to work for. They have horrific retention rates which is a reflection of their workplace environment. You would be best to avoid working for Amazon unless you need a quick gig.

And their turnover rate is so high they hire their people on the spot.

I've know a few people at Amazon in NYC. They went through several rounds of interviews. The pay is decent and great work-life balance according to them.

Amazon warehouse is not meant to be a long-term career. They like to keep a rotating door of low paid employees.

I doubt my sister in law is that special that they couldn't wait to hire her...lol.
She applied for a warehouse job. Those big gigantic warehouses. She said that everybody, unless you had a criminal past or other issues, were hired on the spot.
This was in Nevada I think but Im not sure.

When I lived in Memphis I was hired on the spot to work as a Fedex package handler. There were 100's of people interviewing at the same time/day.

These kind of jobs requires 0 skills. Just work hard.
