I strongly believe that is why the gov keep extending UI during the worst of times. The dole is cheaper than cops, bullets, and headlines. And the "peasants" don't have torches this time they have AR-15's.
What Marilyn 220 posted is interesting and also true. In cities like NY, there is something of a history of straight men going "gay for pay." Among the most famous examples among counterculture types are Dee Dee Ramone and Jim Carroll who did it to pay the bills in the 'bad old days' of the 60s and 70s. Until Times Square was cleaned up as well, it was not uncommon for women to work the strip clubs and topless bars so they or their boyfriends could pursue their art.
More recently, you can find examples of W4M and M4M prostitution on Craigslist, which, although it is technically illegal to post it there, is where the majority of it has moved to. We know people in NYC who are working the sex trade primarily as Dommes and although this role usually falls to women (Wall Street bankers, it turns out, have a fetish for being beaten), men also work in the BDSM scene to pay the bills. In fact, in Ridgewood (a neighborhood in south-central Queens, NY), we have been seeing flyers asking for female phone sex operators. I also have a friend from the N Virginia area who has turned to web cam work to pay the bills in bad times. She does not make a ton but it helps her with the bills.
Why would a straight man prostitute himself to a guy? He can prostitute himself to women, instead. I was insulted at a Barnes & Noble, someone called me a prostitute, then the woman sitting next to me said she'd buy me... But I'm not a prostitute. I've heard of gay for pay porn stars, though.
I've been unemployed 5+ years now, and I get by because of my $1154 monthly SSDI and my Parent's $7000 pension pays the bills, house repairs, and property taxes.
Women don't really pay for sex. It's very rare. And you know, they almost never have to.
Gay for pay is huge.
