I've got an interview in 7 or 8 days...in the meantime where can I search for places for short term projects? I know about day labor places but that's not really my thing anymore, temp places sometimes have those but rarely in my experience. I have done projects in merchandising and am looking daily...but what else is there?
Another thing to it is being that I left my last job and probably don't qualify for unemployment, just getting on with another company can start me on a new record with unemp so the work probably has to be more than just a 1 day contract or something.

Not all labor assigments require heavy lifting. You can get lucky and get an assignment as a Truck helper which is rising around in a truck all day and helping unload.

Not sure if all Labor Agencies are like this but the ones in philly give the CRAPPY ASSIGNMENTS to the guys who are obviously there to pay for their drug or alcohol addiction. Someone who walks in looking clean cut and work clothes and ready to start at 6am will get a good assignment.

I tried Labor Ready when I was in Roanoke VA in 1998 and it was the same there...
I know I'm late on this, but you can signup to participate in Market Research panels or be a subject in research studies (not necessarily clinical trials). Focus Pointe Global and research projects at UPenn are good places to start.

I've been signed up with research companies for years and never 'qualify'...only one that calls me like once a year is Plaza Research in Marlton. Luckily I was able to get merchandising companies to call me for work,so I'm currently working some of that together...
