The worst is the microwave popcorn burners. That smell is horrible and lingers all day.

I worked in a large building, and any burned popcorn set off the fire alarm, the entire building had to be evacuated, the fire department had to come shut off the alarm.

We got a memo, that basically said, the next person who burns popcorn is fired.

No one ever even cooked popcorn again. Let alone burned it.

As for the apple issue, I suggest ear plugs. Maybe medication would help.

Ok busted. I chew ice cubes when I am stressed, but not all day. It's good you are moving back east I wouldn't want to land a job at your workplace and drive you nuts. Buy hey at least I don't dip like so many do here that's gross to me. My old SM would talk sales opps and spit in his cup, lovely.

It became a problem in our office too, so we banned such foods. Indian food as well, curry, etc.

What bugs the heck out of me is when the guy next to me eats yogurt. That glop, glop, glop sound bugs me to death.

Also, he brings a milk jug with water in it to work. The swish sound as he pours it in his cup every half hour is bothersome.

My workplace gives out free apples as a perk.

Never been bothered by people eating food at their desks or crunching ice, but those microwave popcorn burning folks are the worst. That smell reaches from one end of the building to the other.

We have banned popcorn, burned or otherwise, but anything else goes as far as food. I have an office and don't hear anyone chewing but even when I had a cubicle they were 6' high with good insulating qualities and would never hear someone eating an apple or ice cubes. Many people do listen to music or radio with earphones while working, seems like that should help. If you listen online and have the phone system connected to the network you will still get your calls through the same ear/headphones.

I always know when it is 12:00 because because the person in the next cube crunches on chips every day at the same time!

Wow I am sensitive to noise when I am at home, but being in sales I guess I have thicker skin. Unless people pass gas in cube land it's all good. And if you bring a 12 back for the team Friday at 3 so much the better!

I always thought people should walk fragrant foods up the stairs and not use the elevators. I was always sensitive to entering an elevator where the previous user had carried micro-popped corn or fast food between floors. Upchuck! Of course my thinking was not really practical. So I became the stairway user much of the time...... my problem, my solution. Same with apples or other "offensive" foods. Gotta come up with a way to personally manage the issue if one can't grin and bear it.
