If you are a business owner, or if you simply answer the phones for one...why do you just say "Hello."
It does make the caller feel they have reached a wrong number, plus not very professional!

And also, if you are creating an email address for your business, please do not have it start with words like "mamabear" of "bigdaddy."

Good? Thanks.

Hard to believe this happens, but yes, I've encountered it too. The "business" I called, the man on the other end answered with a very gruff 'HELLO?' I just wanted to hang up.

I agree. The business name should be presented. I call businesses and agencies for my line of work and a few did this and I had to ask is this so-and-so. In those 5 seconds of time I may have to answer another call or request and this time adds up.

I just cannot comprehend their reasons. I want to ask the next person who does this why. Last time it happened, I said "Oh I am sorry, I thought I was calling a place of business." and hung up.

I also can not stand when businesses use gmail, hotmail, or yahoo for their company email addresses.

1. The business owner is too cheap to purchase a professional email address.

2. The business owner is trying to avoid unsolicited calls, and thus when answering the phone and saying hello, they're able to ask you why you're calling before giving out any additional information.

Example:

*Ring...Ring...Ring*

-Business Owner = Hello.
-You = Hello/Yes, may I speak with "such-and-such?" (or) I'm calling regarding "such-and-such." (or) Have I reached "such-and-such?"
-Business Owner = May I ask who's calling and why?

It just par for the course with all of the paranoia/passive-aggressivism and penny-pinching these days.

Except most of those that use the free email address, have already purchased the domain and the hosting for their website, so they have access to the email addresses without having to pay anything else.

Not all businesses have websites, and some businesses do use the free domains.

I guess it comes down to how serious you are about your business, then. I have 2 numbers and 2 addresses. I never get soliciations. I simply know what comes to what address and who gets what numbers. Still...my professional and personal emails are both decent sounding. I mean, "trixieluv6" for my dentist is a bit over the top...(not my dentist anymore, btw)
