All Jobs are based on supply and demand.

Today companies have a small demand
and a large supply to chose from.

If you are not chosen ... They either don't need you,
or you are not worth the wages you want.

There are more people wanting jobs than there are jobs available today,
and the companies have a large selection in almost all fields
of employment to choose from.

They will take the best qualified for the
least amount of money to invest in you ! ! !

If you want more money and they do not hire you,
it's because you are not worth what you think
you are worth ... very simple.

For minimum wage jobs I think it is just supply and demand. In the past those employers came to you, now it's the opposite.

The demand is being distorted by the fact that

Companies can ship jobs overseas where desperate third worlders will work for a fraction due to lower costs of living and high desperation
They can ship those third worlders to the USA under the h1b program
They can use the desperation at home to make one worker do the work of 2 or more by paying salary and abusing the exempt status
We practically have a failed govt in the USA incapable of doing much of anything policy wise other than continue to aggravate the issues.

In no way are those distortions. They are factors.

Yes, factors that prevent honest, hard-working Americans from getting jobs!

And, yes, it is a distortion when our nation tries to compete "fairly" with nations that cheat via: slave labor, heavily manipulated currency, IP theft, and no regard for the mess their industries make of the environment. Geez...

In the past there were not enough qualified people
to do the jobs, so employers advertised and paid higher wages.

If the government did not raise the weeks of unemployment
from 26 weeks to 2 years most of those lower paying jobs would have
been filled by people who ran out of benefits, and had no income.

After the elections are over they will probably
lower it back down to 26 week again, or run out of money.

The over payments of Unemployment benefits
makes the President look better ! ! !

Slave Labor is a fallacy; Chinese mfg workers are the envy of those in the rice paddy, not the reverse.

I do want them to float their currency.

Their environment is their concern, not ours.

Sorry, their environment is OUR CONCERN.

China said over 30 yrs ago about the United States "that we will own you one day", and it's here.

They indeed are a distortion. When US consumer spending drives 70% of the economy and now the jobs that are generated by that spending and thus feed back into it are sent to the third world you disrupt the economic homeostasis of the USA. The end result is a downward spiral of increasing unemployment and decreasing long term economic health. The health care industry can't keep the whole country afloat forever.

I do agree most of the 3 million openings would be filled, as much as corps would truly budget for, with fewer weeks of ui. people tend to relax during the 1st half of unemployment, IMO, very often. Set at 99 wks, that is 49-50 weeks of less than full effort. Set at 26-it is 13 weeks. Its human nature to recognize the level of safety net provided.
