A new book by an economics professor at the University of Texas-Austin reveals what the world of advertising has known for decades - that beauty sells.
But Daniel S Hamermesh also shows that being attractive pays - with good looking employees enjoying more perks and higher pay packets than their plainer colleagues.
This guy was my professor (and a big time elitist) so I heard a lot about this study and guess what: this is common knowledge and not something that requires 20 years of research.
Wherever you go, good-looking people (women in my case) get treated differently than "ugly" people. Just the way it is in today's world. For example, if you are standing trial, it is statistically proven (based on an essay I wrote back in middle school) that convicts who are "good-looking" get lighter sentences than their uglier counterparts for the same crime.

Since we already know this, we need to move on and get past this.
We need to be creative and learn how to seek revenge against good looking people. How can we stick it to them? Make it even.
This required a 20 year study??? If only these people would research something of value maybe our country wouldn't be going down the toilet
This is why I didn't like my professor (among other things). Why waste 20 years on something most people already knew. Why not use your knowledge of economics to figure out what we need to do as a nation to get out of the slump we're in and get people working again?
On a side note, he also caused a bit of a controversy with Texas State University by implying that UT Austin should receive a bulk of the state aid because it was a school where the "best and brightest in the state" went to while schools like Texas State and UH did not deserve to be Tier One nor receive state aid because it was basically a lower tier school.

It's not a waste. It could very well have resulted in findings in which we all thought we knew, but were wrong about. There's a valid reason for concluding something by way of research even if we think we know.

Yep. Sometimes things that seem obvious are found out to be wrong through research. Although in this case, there have been others studies on the beauty premium so maybe it was a waste.
not too mention more likely to get hired etc..Wow, newsflash here!
