My friend had a job interview where they are recruiting a group of people to start on the same day for training. He hasn't gotten a call from them yet, but was thinking of just showing up on training day anyway. They told him what time the training would start and where it would be. What's the worst that can happen?

I would think the worst that could happen is that he is not only not chosen for hire/training but that he is eliminated from consideration for all future rounds of hiring/training.

Yeah could be, but the flip side is that they can admire the determination. This is a dream job, so maybe it could be worth it?

Maybe they'll have him work on the Penske file.

Or he could be escorted out of the building.

When I interview I always let candidates know what the process is. If you don't hear from us you just don't show up.

I understand your point but I don't think it's going to be construed as determinred.

It's kinda like this. You were not invited to the party but you show up anyway.....Awkward!

What's wrong with calling or sending an email to inquire about the status of his application? If he doesn't get an answer fast enough he could always speak with the reception desk and politely ask if it would be okay to show up on training day without a formal invitation. He could also ask to speak to someone who works in the department or HR and ask the same thing.

Maybe they have not finished the process or changed the training date. I think it is unrealistic for him to show up and expect to be accepted. Big mistake!

The worst thing: The world could come to an end.

Or, they just look at him with a weird and surprised look, say "Um...you're not hired for the job", and ask him to leave. I don't think they would dare arrest him for trespassing unless he started raising a fuss about it. After all, he could be a potential customer. Personally, I think he should just call them and ask if he's been hired or not. Or, he could go in person and ask before the training session. Besides, any employer who has him arrested for trespassing--or forbids to ever hire him b/c he shows up at the workplace and asks if he's been hired--is probably extremely strict and not worth the headache.
