You already know sister I don't mind boring chit-chat here and there but when it comes to work, I'm all business. There's socializiation within a workplace context, that's the ONLY acceptable socialization when you're collaborating with other team members to get the job done. The amount of foolishness I read on this board is sickening

Gotcha!! I don't mind a little fun, but only when the work is done. (No pun intended).

Damn........Some of you are grouches. It's not that serious to feel that strongly about not socializing with people you work with. You are making it a job within itself not to do so.

I don't find anything wrong with being social. It might make many of your coworkers more comfortable with you at work if you go have a drink with them, be happy they are having a baby and talk. Most of them probably think you are stuck up....of course you don't have to care what others think but damn what if one day you need some help with something or stuck on the side of street because your car breaks down. I would much rather be social so my coworkers will feel comfortable picking me in that situation instead of looking straight ahead pretending like they don't see me....But I saw them drive by...LOL

I'm not saying you have to be the best of friends, go out every weekend and hang out. It make a much more pleasant work environment to socialize. Believe it or not there,s a different atmosphere when coworkers are nice to each other.

I like to be social-at one job we always made a point to go to happy hour once a month-sometimes I would think "ugh not again" then at another job NO ONE like each other-it was a complete shock-so I think being around co workers or your boss and see them as people is always a good thing...

My workplace is fairly social, but still professional. People eat lunch and chat in the breakroom. A group of coworkers goes to happy hour once a month--sometimes it's a big group, sometimes not, but it's usually fun. I haven't seen any drama, and it makes for a pleasant workplace.

No kidding sherlock, no one's disputing that. When you spend more time socializing instead of working, that's the problem.

Too busy working--in fact, we hardly even see each other except when we all leave the building en masse for lunch. The supervisors lock the doors and they don't want anyone in the building while they are gone.
