Moving to Wausau (to rent, hotel, safe area)

Hey all, I'll be moving to Wausau within the next two months, working for Aspirus. Looking for suggestions on where to rent. I saw numerous message boards about downtown being a decent area and surrounding suburbs being good options as well. Don't need anything fancy as long as it's a safe area.

A little about my background: no kids, coming from St. Louis and recently turned 30. I like renting quieter areas but close enough to activities (dining, shops, parks) via a quick drive, walk or bike ride.

Would downtown be a good target area? Any other recommendation?

A smaller city in central Wisconsin? Safe? Yup. The stench from madison/milwaukee hasn't infected that area, so it's a great area. I'd go there, rent a hotel for a week, then do some windshield time to find a place/write down numbers. Then schedule visits.

You should have fun as that's a great area. Once there, meet people and expand social contacts, living the good life in rural wisconsin.

The safe area part made me laugh Besides some drunks, I don't think there's much to worry about anywhere there Sounds like you're in for a pleasant surprise.

I agree. the area's pretty safe all around. There should be quite a few places to rent around Aspirus. I don't know that I would rent downtown. It's either sort of rundown, or VERY expensive.

If it were me, I would rent near Aspirus.
