Lakeland, Florida-based supermarket Publix is speculated to eye the northwest corner of Russ Avenue and Frazier Street in the town of Waynesville in Haywood County, North Carolina, for a new store. Existing occupants on the projected site include Sagebrush Steakhouse, 895 Russ Avenue, Waynesville, North Carolina 28786-4147; The Lodge, 909 Russ Avenue, Waynesville, North Carolina 28786-2943; and a strip center on the northern side of Frazier Street.

Publix has announced it does not have a confirmed site in Waynesville, and it is always looking to expand.

Typical CorpSpeak, but not surprised at the lack of enthusiasm or noncommittal response.

A Pub there is similar to the Walgreen vs CVS on every corner in the US, during the boom/let's fight to the death competition days.

Publix are good stores, but other than us retirees with some dough, many of the locals/working class are not gonna shop there, imo.

As I wrote a half year ago, I will believe this is a Pub in Waynesville, when there is a Publix in Waynesville.

Publix is further expanding in North Carolina. If it comes to Waynesville and Haywood County, there will be another grocery retailer participating.

Ingle's has been and is active in Waynesville replacing both stores. I wonder if it is preparing for the arrival of Publix.

Having lived in Waynesville for 15+ years, and not a huge fan of Ingles, I would like to see a Pub here, but I remain doubtful of it even beginning any time soon.

Ingles really needed to redo the Hazelwood store, though I remain unimpressed with the main store re-do. Much ado about little, imo.

Pub has nice stores, (we have one here on 'every corner' in SW FL at our Escape Winter area), but the the 'not as comfortable local peeps' will not pay the Pub premium, imo, if and when a Pub shows up in Waynesville.

I doubt BI-LO #5168, Mountain Creek Plaza, 366 Russ Avenue, Waynesville, North Carolina 28786-2905, will be around if Publix comes. It is already losing business to Ingle's #23, 201 Barber Boulevard, Waynesville, North Carolina 28786-3686. BI-LO's prices are higher than Ingle's and Publix.

A public meeting for a 50,000-square-foot Publix supermarket at Russ Avenue and Frazier Street will be held Monday, 15 May 2017, at Waynesville Town Hall.
