I am thinking of moving to western NC. I have friends in asheville, but I think it might be a little too expensive for me. I am looking at Cullowhee, since the rent seems to be a lot cheaper. I am in my late 20s so I wouldnt be attending the school in the area. I want a place where I can be surrounded by nature. I like small towns and dont mind not being in the city. Do you think Cullowhee would be a good fit? Are there other towns closer to asheville that I should consider?

I'd recommend moving just 10 minutes up the road to Sylva if you're looking in that area. There is very little that happens in Cullowhee that isn't related to WCU. Also most rental places, apartments and homes, will be primarily occupied by students. And because there isn't much shopping or other services in Cullowhee you'll probably end up having to go to Sylva a lot anyway. There's still a lot of university activity but it's not as dominant.

Charter is the main internet provider in Western NC

Cullowhee is really a concept. Move to Sylva, or maybe Waynesville. A great small mountain town, up near Virginia is Sparta.
