I am coming back to Maggie Valley this weekend, YEA! How are the colors in that area? What about on the Parkway? What is the weather like, cool I hope.
Tuesday it was 91 in Charlotte but a cool down is finally upon us. The color this year is going to be a major disappointment because of the drought. It is the worst in history with no relief in sight.
But on the good side, the air has been so clear that it has been beautiful. Last evening was simply gorgeous.
Color is just beginning. Not sure how long the leaves will hang on the trees due to the severd drought in the area. Temps have been heavenly. This morning on my way in to Asheville from Haywood County, it was 46 degrees. Last night I could feel the temps changing. It is moving more towards fall weather for sure (last weekend was downright balmy).
The drought is awful, but the clear skies are perfect for night sky watching. I saw 3 falling stars last weekend amidst the millions of bright stars in the inky sky.

You are lucky to be coming this weekend - the temps are finally going down and expected to be down right cool by then! The parkway is ALWAYS beautiful, even when the leaves are green, but you should definitely see some color. Have a great trip!

You are right, I have seen the Parkway in spring when it was green and it was still breathtaking! I can't wait to get back to God's Country!!!
Something that nobody mentions but I love doing is riding the Parkway after the leaves have fallen. You can constantly see the distant vistas through the barren trees.

No doubt about it, the parkway is great no matter what time of year you drive it
And for those of you who care about it like I do, check out the organization Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway:
Fall foliage, this is why i am so eager to move. I love FL, but the only time I see any season changes is when a hurricane comes thru town. Our leaves don't change (if any) until the middle of april. I want to know what it is like to feel the change of season along with the holidays. Fall = sage, pumpkins, halloween, thanksgiving, smell of cinnamon Winter = white, crisp blue sky, snowmen, xmas, smell of pine, lots of snuggles.
