A combination of warm days, cool nights and not too much rain should lead to vibrant fall colors in western North Carolina, which could mean a tourism boost for the region. The season should begin Oct. 1 and peak in the third week of the month. Vibrant fall colors expected in western North Carolina
Yay! I will be there for the peak. Not as talented as GuyFriendly with the camera, but even I should be able to get some beautiful photos.
Can anyone recommend a good website or book that would list hikes in the area? I'll be staying near Lake Lure (have already done Chimney Rock) but would also like to drive north on the Parkway.

Anyone want to do ride-alongs with me when I go shooting? My wife isn't real keen on me going alone but she is home writing a book while I shoot. I stop, I hike, I zip by places if the lighting isn't right, ... in other words, if you aren't an avid photographer, you might not enjoy the day with me. But if you like to stop and set up tripod and get "the" shot, drop me a PM. I'll send you my tentative schedule.
