I live in Asheville and agree you're looking at a commute longer that thirty minutes each way. And you will see snow in winter. Unless you have some attachment to the Waynesville area (other than the lower rent issue), there are other alternatives that wouldn't put you on that snowy commute. Black Mountain, Hendersonville, Fletcher, Arden, Pisgah Forest. Check out rentals for Asheville in Craigslist. There's a pay for want ad paper in AVL called IWANNA. It's on newstands and online. Lots of rental listings there. Oh, also check out Weaverville, just north of Asheville... with no freeway in between (unless you want to take it for some reason). Suggest you check elevation of AVL against other areas you're considering (as well as elevations you'll pass through on your commute). The higher the elevation, the more snow you'll get. From my recollection, we got two days of light snow in AVL last year, and each time it was gone by mid day. But that's not typical, I'm told.
