Folks: We're having a bit of a debate about this. We will probably hold off buying a house for now but want to move. We saw a house today that was nice enough and adequate. It's in Weaverville (outside the city limits). It has only been advertised (by owner) on a website for a few days. House was on the market but the owners are giving up.

I personally think it's overpriced probably by @100 (maybe 150)/month. Is there any moral rule that says we must offer the price on the post? I watched a lovely house (we looked at it) drop from 1250 and it finally rented for 1050 (the guy tried selling it and gave up ... learned that too late). I'm just wondering why as potential renters we cannot do the same.

Any etiquette guidelines here?

Thanks!

I've only delt with a house rental once which is the one I'm currently in. Before that it was apartments which really don't budge.

I'm paying 750 plus 50 in dog fees each month. If I end up renting for another year, I was going to negotiate the dog fee out since the owner herself has said my dogs are the most well behaved, nice and quiet dogs shes had.

Whats the worse they can do right? Just say no. So you go up a little if you really like it. Good luck!

Hey bburl100 (I'll use your handle ):

I think you are smart for putting off buying for a while. That's exactly what I am doing until this crazy housing market somewhat stabilizes. I think rents are not going to be going down either because of strong demand from previously foreclosed homeowners. I was paying $700 a month for a one bedroom apartment in west Asheville just to give you an idea of costs. I just moved to Marshal and I took a room for $300 and put some stuff in storage while I wait it out.

Weaverville is a lovely little, almost suburb of Asheville, and I absolutely love it. It gets really pretty a little out of town from Weaverville down Reems Creek toward's the state historical site of Vance's birthplace.
