ok mountain folks. i want to come from ohio and spend several weeks in a cabin rental in the mountains. however, i need to go to raleigh while doing it. what's the closest i can get and still be in the hills???? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

3 hours is about as close as you can get to Raleigh and still be in the mountains. Areas to look at that are closest are the High Country (Ashe, Allegheny, western Wilkes, Watauga Counties) or near Roanoke, VA.

I'd recommend you head to the Fancy Gap, VA area It's about 2 and a half hours from Raleigh, give or take depending on where in Raleigh you have to go. It's really a very easy drive too.

Depending on how large of a place you need, I know two that I could recommend.

Wow, someone just repped me for my post almost 4 years to the day after I made it lol (thanks!)

I still love the Fancy Gap, VA area for anyone from the triangle or triad looking for a nice easy to access mountain getaway
