Hello, this fall I'm attending Fairmont State Univ. for one year and I'm looking for housing ideas. Being a returning adult student, I don't want something right next to the school. I've only ever been to Fairmont once, and I'm now living about 8 hours away, so finding housing is going to be a challenge. Any suggestions for a decent small (studio, 1 bedroom) apt. within 10-15 miles of the school? I'm looking for ideas on where to look, where to avoid.

My sister goes to Fairmont State and she splits rent on a small house about a mile away from the campus. This is her last year up there.

It is pretty cheap, IDK if your interested in a room mate though

Check the apartments over by the Cracker Barrel. I forget what they are called (I moved away after a year of school) but if you are at the Cracker Barrel, go across the bridge and take a right towards DJ's Diner. I had a friend who lived up there and she liked it, didn't seem to have any problems and it wasn't "student housing party central". Hopefully it still is that way. Good luck!

plenty of apartments. i lived near the high school, away from the skanky party area... it was quiet. 2br for $435 and i could still walk to class. avoid anything right on locust ave. avoid walnut ave (one slumlord owns almost all of the rentals on this road. all gross and fire hazards). plenty of casual landlords that just rent one property. check the times-wv for most up to date rentals. lots of landlords don't even bother with craigslist
