I've lived in south Florida for almost 30 years and after visiting friends in Georgia, NC, Virginia, Texas, California, Tennessee, etc. and seeing how beautiful those places were, I still would not move. Every state has its pros and cons. I wish less people moved to Florida because I've seen it change (especially the overbuilding) since the early 70s but the truth is, when all is said and done, I love Florida. You are minutes from the beach and if you want to go to the most laid back place in the US, the keys are just a couple of hours away. Sanibel Island and the rest of the west coast beaches are simply stunning too. Oh yeah, and they're there for your enjoyment almost 365 days of the year. And before I forget, the snow removal services are second to none!

It seems that since the southern extent of the Treasure Coast and perhaps even Central Florida is only a short distance north of me, I'm living in northern South Florida. There's roughly, more or less, 100 miles of the Florida mainland to my south not counting the Keys. As I start to explore, I will be trying to take note of the vegitation to see if it noticably changes and becomes more tropical as I drive south. And I've got alot of exploring to do. If South Florida was a seperate state, it could be concidered a medium sized state unto itself. I've got the rest of my life to explore South Florida I highly doubt I'll ever move anywhere else, except perhaps to other areas of South Florida that is

I'm glad that you're happy, it truly is a great place to live. I regret leaving 6 years ago to move to NYC on my 23 year old idea of living somewhere different. I am anticipating moving back and wish it were tomorrow.

the weather is hot & humid year round, more than a quarter of the people in SoFla were not born in this country.
the only people truly enjoying FL are the rich snowbirds...
I have lived all over SoFla for the past 20 years so believe me i know what im talking about.

you are probably thinking FL is great, sunshine, beaches, endless fun...after a few years reality will set in and you will most likely move. also, i've lived in chicago too...

Since i've moved i've realized SoFla is Great to visit..but i would never move back ever.
seriously i wouldnt go to a grocery store w/o carrying a gun anywhere south of WPB.

anyway, give us an update....how are you liking WPB?

you poor soul

Welcome to FL and I am sure you will find many people that love it here. I have lived in FL for 25 years and wouldn't move to any other state except maybe San Diego, CA but they have earthquakes.

I'm interested in where the vegetation becomes noticeably different as well. Report back what you find out!
