Exactly^. You really need to know where you’re going, and there some “hidden gems” here and there along with the bad.

OP lowered budget to $1k

$1500 won’t get you into a super awesome rental in a great area in South Florida.
It gets you a small 1/1 in an ok area.

Then again, it’s all relative.

Might get something in Verano for 1250.

It’s not glorious, but I would live there if I knew I was saving for something better.

Plenty of SWFs there, as well as young professionals and college students. .I’m a SWF. They’re updating the complex now, so they can’t get top dollar. Some of the apartments have been completely gutted and updated. I was surprised how nice some are.

There are single black women there too- it’s just that the “SWF” thing seems to be the barometer of safety to so many people.
It used to be a really nice complex, but fell into disrepair. It’s still not awful or what I would think of as scary or dangerous.

I’m there everyday and have the skinny on just about everything lol.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't lower my budget, though I see I posted $1k in my second post. The budget is $1,500 but prefer to spend less. I don't need anything fancy - even a studio would be fine, as this going to be short term (3-6 months at most). A few offers on the CT house, so it's looking good. If anyone has additional suggestions on rental units, please continue to post them!

Moving on, and tell me if I should post another thread, once the rest of the family is in So. FL, we're eyeing communities to purchase a home. We're fine with a 3/2 ranch, prefer low HOA, our own pool, and price range is probably going to be in the ball park of 300-350k (can go higher but as the other half says, I'm cheap ). Won't be using public schools, but do want a safe area easily commutable to both Boca Raton and Ft. Lauderdale. I know this won't go far in Boca, but any surrounding communities we can look in? So far, been looking at Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Boca. Most recently discovered Coral Springs, which looks very nice.

Thanks again, all. Your responses are helpful.

Apartments that are short term 3 to 6 months are going to be a lot more per month then if you did a 12 month lease. Since your coming in Aug finding a condo with an owner who wants to rent off season for 3 to 6 months would probably work better. When I moved in the summer I was able to find a reasonable rental for a few months. I have always been able to get owners to negotiate the price. Most are going to want 1st, last and one months security.

Thanks; looking at Hotpads.com, it appears I can get a pretty decent 1 bedroom apartment for $13-1400 in central and east Boca. I've inquired about a few!

Try also airbnb for long term rentals. Might be worth it and be a better price than putting down deposits and signing a lease.
