Hello all!
I need to know what areas are good (meaning decent people, clean, and safe) and which areas I need to stay away from!
My wife and I have a 6mo baby and were looking to move from Miami to a place with A rated schools. I found that the schools in the Wellington and Royal Palm area have great reviews/reputation (according to the greatschools website). I went with my wife to drive around the area and get a feel for it and had a realtor show us a couple of houses (we looked in Victoria Groves) and loved it. I accepted a job offer in WPB and now I'm looking for a place to rent and a good daycare. Well... now that I'm taking a closer look, all the places that I look into are very low-income, and sometimes even trashy. I am quite disappointed (not to mention worried!) because I though I was making an improvement by moving out of Miami. Everywhere I turn either in Wellington or in Royal Palm Beach I find a trashy/ghetto neighborhood with the same kind of "suspicious" people I am running away from. We make close to $70k/year (salaries combined).
Can anyone local give me an idea of where to look? Anything helps!
Thank you!

It would help to know your price range for rent.

Visit the Walmart on 441/Belevdere Rd and you will think you are in Miami!

Our budget for rental is up to $1300. I know it won't get me a 4/2 house, but I was hoping for a quiet, decent, clean neighborhood. Thanks for replying!

Well that budget is a bit low. Have you scoured craigslist? I just found this Live In Luxury at Waterstone at Wellington though its hard to say if its a lead you in ad. Wellington is full to the brim right now. Its full equestrian season. You have hundreds of grooms and riders taking all the rentals. You will see space free up end of April.

Wellington is a great place to live. Just like you have the Polo neighborhoods with guests like Bill Gates renting there, it also has its bad neighborhoods in it as well.

Just stay out of those areas and you'll be fine. There is many, many places to live in Wellington without having to deal with the bad areas and the people that live in them.

Good Luck

There's not really many bad parts of Wellington. There's some areas with townhouses I know of that are magnets for crime, but they stretch for like 3 blocks and that's it, and the crime isn't exactly CSI level stuff. In general Wellington is solidly middle class and upper middle class. Maybe you're mixing it up with parts of RPB, which definitely looks rough around the edges in a lot of areas.

What wireyourworld said. How much money you are willing to pay will decide where in any community, anywhere, the quality of the neighborhood.

I live three miles north of the center of town. 80% of RPB is ok, just like anywhere else.

Thank you all for the replies. A realtor told me the same thing - it really comes down to the budget. It seems we will end up in Wellington (we'll have to downsize to fit in a 2/2). Now the next challenge is infant daycares... any suggestions??
